Diane Nalini is an award-winning jazz singer and songwriter with over ten years of experience teaching learners of all ages, from high school students to retirees. She has released four critically-acclaimed albums, performed at jazz festivals around the world, and given gala performances for President Bill Clinton and Sir Paul McCartney. An accomplished songwriter, composer, and lyricist, Diane has written or co-written songs that have been used in major Hollywood releases, indie films, television shows and video games.
Before moving to Ottawa, Diane was on faculty at the University of Guelph for five years, where she brought music into the physics classroom on a regular basis. She has given invited talks and keynote addresses on using music to teach literature and physics, including for the Quebec Teachers Federation, the Toronto District Schoolboard, and the Regina Teachers’ Association.
She is passionate about making music more accessible and enjoyable to all. In addition to teaching in Carleton University’s continuing education program, she gives workshops in singing, vocal improvisation, songwriting and ukulele. March 12 to April 16
Six week songwriting workshop “The Art Of Writing Songs”
Tuesday evenings, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, Carleton University, Ottawa
Have you always wanted to write songs, but weren’t sure where to start? Each week, Diane will guide you through different ways of getting your creative juices flowing. You’ll tackle writing lyrics to an existing melody, setting poetry to music, and writing your own song from scratch, all in the style of your choice. Participants can work individually or collaboratively and will come away having worked on at least three songs. Participants will also have the opportunity to have one song performed in a friendly, positive, and supportive class environment.
